Videocon D2H has just signed a one-year lead sponsorship deal with the Mumbai Indians IPL team for a record $6 million (Rs 32 crore). The deal comes after existing sponsor Hero MotoCorp walked out of its contract ($15 million for three years) a year ahead of schedule.
Venugopal Dhoot, chairman, Videocon India, confirmed the development and said, "I am happy with the sponsorship deal with the Mumbai Indians. The team has a player like Sachin who is the pride of Mumbai and the world. I also believe that the team this time is very solid and has a good chance of winning the IPL cup."
This is Videocon's second innings as the lead sponsor of the Mumbai Indians and sources say that it is aimed at giving Videocon D2H as large a platform as possible before the deadline for cable TV digitisation comes into effect on March 31. As lead sponsor, the Videocon D2H logo will be prominently displayed on players' jerseys. The sponsor will also be given preferential access to promotions and activities happening on the field as well as on the ground.
